Blueprint
ZTT Records / Salvo, 2011

Curated by Ian Peel for ZTT Records, ‘Blueprint’ is a compilation of 808 State’s ‘greatest bits’ – an alternate take on the pioneering techno group’s chart career. The band’s catalogue is represented with unreleased edits, rare remixes from Aphex Twin and Brian Eno, and vocal cuts from Björk, Guy Garvey and James Dean Bradfield.

For its artwork, Roland UK kindly gave me permission to use details from circuit diagrams of the drum machine which gave the band their name, the TR-808 Rhythm Composer. I rendered them in International Klein Blue. The gatefold outer sleeve holds a 20 page booklet with words by Paul Morley and a foreword from Orbital’s Phil Hartnoll.

Ian and I also worked with Salvo on deluxe 2xCD editions for the group’s four ZTT studio albums: ‘90’, ‘ex:el’, ‘Gorgeous’ and ‘Don Solaris’. Each of these editions featured extended and remixed artwork.
